We did our research. Some wood furniture products use an antimicrobial topical coating that is typically only a few microns thick, and they’re only as good as the integrity of the finish. As soon as the substrate or finish is damaged, scratched, nicked or swells due to normal use, bacteria and other organisms gain a stronghold. Harsh cleaning chemicals will damage the topical coating, leaving it, at best, ineffectual and at worst, compromised. It had to be something we could incorporate into our material, permeating the entire outer shell. Not a topical coating, but all the way through. Oh yes, and it needed to last for 10 years, as we offer a performance warranty on all our seating, tables, casegoods and wall protection for a decade.
